Greg is the drummer in 5 O'Clock Shadow, as well as composer of several 5OCS original tunes.
Greg has played with 5 O'Clock Shadow since its inception in 2002. Since then Greg has simultaneously held the drum chair in Marshall Law and Serious Condition (at various times), and subbed on many gigs with Isis and the Cold Truth, Thrilltrain (all Blues/Rock/R&B groups), and 5 Easy Pieces (Rock/Pop). Greg has played live shows on KFOG and KKUP radio stations.
Outside of 5ocs, Greg composes songs in a number of genres. Although drums are his primary instrument, Greg also plays vibraphone, keyboards and darbuka (middle eastern hand drum). Greg's musical influences as a composer range from classic rock/blues, to jazz, and include country and turkish/arabesque.
Prior to 5 O'Clock Shadow, Greg was in numerous groups in the San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle, primarily in the Blues, Jazz, R&B and Rock genres.
Greg was born and raised in Palo Alto, and began drumming at age 7, took up the drum kit at age 8, and has been playing in combos since age 12. As a kid, Greg played with Stanley Jordan (who went on the become a renowned Jazz guitarist). Greg has studied drums with Larry Jones, Charles Dowd, Bob McCormick, and Kevin Coggins, and has played shows all over Northern California, Seattle, Thailand, Indonesia, France, Turkey, and the Czech Republic.
Greg has also impacted the music technology world, as the key MIDI system design engineer at Microsoft, where he wrote the first MIDI sequencer for Windows 3.0, and as the author of the "Different Drummer" software package. When not drumming, Greg is an engineering manager at Sun Microsystems.
Greg's other interests include skiing and gourmet cooking. Greg aspires to be the house drummer in a world-renowned jazz club/restaurant located in a ski area in France carving powder tracks in the morning, and laying down rhythm tracks at night.
